The Crust launched into 1.0 on 10 September 2026 and is sold only on Steam, for Windows, macOS and Linux. There is no console version and no official statement about one. On 22 September 2026 the listing showed $31.99 with a 35% discount taking it to $20.79 — the base price is the number to plan around, because the discount is a launch promotion. It is single-player only.

Release history

The game spent a long time in front of an audience before 1.0. It entered Early Access on 15 July 2024 — the date is still attached to the official EA launch trailer — and left it on 10 September 2026, about two years and two months later. The 1.0 announcement frames the release as finished but not abandoned: “this release does not mean development is over: there are still plenty of plans ahead.”

That matters if you are deciding when to buy. Weekly hotfixes were still shipping as of late September 2026, and the build has moved several times since launch. Our updates page tracks the version history.

Price, and what the number means

Item Value Read on
Base price (USD) $31.99 22 September 2026
Discounted price $20.79 22 September 2026
Discount 35% off 22 September 2026
Currency shown USD

Three honest caveats. First, that discount is a launch promotion, not the normal price. Second, Steam regional pricing means your storefront may show a different figure in your own currency. Third, we do not track price history on this site, so if you are reading this weeks later, check the listing.

Platforms: what is officially supported

Platform Status Evidence
Windows ✅ Supported Store listing; minimum spec lists Windows 7 64-bit or newer
macOS ✅ Supported Official 1.0 announcement, section headed macOS and Linux ports
Linux ✅ Supported Same announcement: “we have done a lot of work and fully ported the game to macOS and Linux”; a Linux requirements block is published
PlayStation / Xbox / Switch ❌ No announcement Zero mentions of any console in the developer’s entire announcement history
Steam Deck ⚠️ Not rated by the developer No compatibility tier is published; the Linux requirements name SteamOS and require Vulkan 1.1

One field disagrees with the announcement. The Steam store API still returns platforms.linux = false, months after the developer stated the Linux port was finished and published a Linux requirements block. We treat the developer’s own announcement plus the published requirements as current, and record the API flag as lagging rather than treating it as a contradiction. If you are buying specifically for Linux, the safest check is the store page itself on the day you buy.

System requirements, as published

Minimum Recommended
OS Windows 7 64-bit or newer Windows 7 64-bit or newer
CPU Intel i5-4590K or equivalent AMD Intel i5-7700 or equivalent AMD
RAM 8 GB 16 GB
GPU GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 580 8GB (Vulkan 1.1 support required) GeForce GTX 1070 or equivalent
Storage 8 GB available space

Linux specifics, quoted from the store’s Linux requirements block: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS 64-bit or newer, or SteamOS. Vulkan-capable GPU required, Vulkan 1.1 support listed as required under graphics, and the same 8 GB RAM / 8 GB storage floors apply.

The 1.0 announcement also states that RAM usage was optimised and “the minimum PC requirements have been lowered”, so treat the table above as the current published floor rather than a description of how the game has always run.

No demo, but there is a free on-ramp

There is no demo build listed on Steam. The developer’s alternative is the Prologue: after 1.0 it was rewritten to “combine tutorial elements”, made simpler and clearer, and given visual improvements. The announcement describes it as a scenario of about 20 minutes that teaches the essential systems and moves you into the story campaign, and it recommends starting there if this is your first time with the game.

If what you actually want is to know whether the colony management will hold your attention, the game modes page covers what Sandbox 2.0 lets you skip.

Languages

Thirteen localisations. English, Russian, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Simplified Chinese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Italian, Spanish (Latin America), Japanese and Turkish. The store marks English and Russian as having full audio support; the rest carry subtitles and interface text. Turkish was added in the 1.0 update after community requests.

What this page does not claim. We do not publish a Steam Deck compatibility rating, a console release window, or a prediction about future discounts — the developer has announced none of those. Anything that could change without notice (price, discount, build number) is dated above rather than stated as a permanent fact.
